The Regina Coeli Building
The Regina Coeli Building is the site of the administrative
offices at Christendom College. First called Massanutten Lodge, its original
structure was built in 1921 by a judge and his family for their private
use and for some paying guests. In 1970, the Communications Workers of
America bought the Lodge and sponsored educational conferences there with
the AFL-CIO until Christendom College purchased the Lodge and adjoining
property in 1979. For several years this building housed classroom, dining,
and recreational facilities for the students.
The College completed
a major renovation of the building in 1996, adding new offices and refurbishing
old ones. Now the building serves as the administrative hub of the College;
it contains the President's Office, Development, Admissions, Academic
Affairs, Financial Aid, and the Registrar, as well as the Chester-Belloc
student lounge and billiard room (named for great Catholic writers G.K.
Chesterton and Hillaire Belloc), and laundry facilities.

such as dances, lectures, and concerts.

The
Chapel of Christ the King
Standing on the campus' highest point, the Chapel of Christ
the King is at the very heart of life at the College. Jan Cardinal Schotte
came from Rome to consecrate the new Chapel on April 8, 1995, an anniversary
that is commemorated every year by the entire College Community. He brought
with him two splendid gifts from the Holy Father-- a gold chalice and
a paten-- which are displayed throughout the year and used on special
occasions.
The Chapel, traditional
in aesthetic character, bears the marks of churches throughout the country
which donated items for its fitting up. The windows, altar, and tabernacle
all came from Sacred Heart Church in Winchester, Virginia, and were donated
by the Arlington Diocese when it opened a new, larger Church in Winchester.
A magnificent, vibrantly colored window picturing Our Lord and His Sacred
Heart was among these donations and now fittingly stands above the tabernacle,
commemorating both the name of the Chapel and the yearly dedication of
the entire College community to Christ's Sacred Heart. Beautiful carved
wood Stations of the Cross and pews also were among the gifts.
