"Sport, properly directed, develops character, makes a man courageous, a generous loser, and a gracious victor; it refines the senses, gives intellectual penetration, and steels the will to endurance. It is not merely a physical development then. Sport, rightly understood, is an occupation of the whole man, and while perfecting the body as an instrument of the mind, it also makes the mind itself a more refined instrument for the search and communication of truth and helps man to achieve that end to which all others must be subservient, the service and praise of his Creator."
Pope Pius XII,
Sport at the Service of the Spirit
July 29, 1945

Christendom College offers intercollegiate, club and intramural sports for both men and women. Christendom believes that sports rightly understood and correctly pursued offer the individual the opportunity to train his body and soul in an effort to fulfill the God-given talent each individual has recieved while developing one's whole person in excellence. Christendom is a member of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) and a member of the Shenadoah-Chesapeake Conference. Christendom competes against numerous other schools in the USCAA as well as Division III schools and many small colleges and Bible Colleges. Since the inception of the Intercollegiate sports program in mid 1980's, Christendom has enjoyed succesful teams. With many wins over Division III schools, such as Loyola University in baseball, Shenandoah University and Mary Washington in men's basketball, lately Christendom's women's soccer team has defeated Division III schools such as Wilson College, Hood College and Trinity University while finishing runner-up in the national USCAA tournament in 2008. Christendom continues to reach out to student-athletes who want to be able to play competitive sports at the college level while not putting their own Faith and beliefs in jeopardy all the while receiving a top level education.
