Why Support Christendom?

Tomorrow's Catholic leaders need your help today.

You've probably heard about how the recent health-care reform - a.k.a. "ObamaCare" - includes a federal takeover of the student loan industry. Now, the stated purpose of this takeover is to save the government billions of dollars by cutting out the "middle man" - private banks - while making more loans available to students. But as you might have guessed, there's an ulterior motive.

As the noted Catholic legal scholar Dr. Charles Rice recently remarked:

What do student loans have to do with health care? The common denominator is control. No student will be able to get a federally guaranteed educational loan without the consent of a federal bureaucrat. This opens the way to make political loyalty a test for educational advancement, as it was in Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union.

Imagine, then, if our increasingly anti-Christian government decides to require that any school receiving federal funds must provide contraceptives in its student health center, or allow "gay/lesbian" student groups, or even prohibit crucifixes in classrooms. Even the very best Catholic colleges would suddenly have only two choices: financial ruin, or betrayal of their Catholic mission.

Meanwhile, secularized Catholic colleges would simply continue their downward slide, cashing in their federal booty while ignoring the teachings of Holy Mother Church. This downward slide has already had devastating effects on our society. For, as we've recently seen, it's only with the votes of poorly-formed "Catholics" that openly pro¬abortion candidates can win elections.

But choosing between God and Caesar is something that Christendom College will never have to do - thanks to the prophetically wise decision of our founder, Warren Carroll, never to accept federal funding even indirectly. Having worked in politics and government, Dr. Carroll understood that federal "aid," in whatever form or amount, always requires compromises - perhaps not right away, but eventually.

As a result of Dr. Carroll's decision, we're free to form students in the One True Faith, without compromise. And that's exactly what we intend to do - even if we are someday the last truly Catholic college left standing.

Help us continue in our mission to Restore all Things in Christ. Tomorrow's Catholic leaders need your help today.
