Rising Sophomore Gets Hands-On Experience in Journalism

June 5, 2014

Christendom CollegeAbby Wilkinson, a rising sophomore at Christendom College, is spending her summer days on Capitol Hill, where she is authorized to be in all press areas and has easy access to congressmen and senators. As an intern, she is finding stories, writing articles, researching pages of legislation, and conducting interviews for CNSNews.com, the news branch of the Washington, D.C.-based Media Research Center.

“My Christendom education has been invaluable in my work as a journalist,” Wilkinson says. “The instruction I am receiving in the liberal arts is broadening my intellect and forming me as a whole person, which has well-prepared me for writing stories under a deadline on a variety of different topics. All of the classes I took freshman year, from Latin to Philosophy, furthered my ability to express myself clearly and eloquently.”

Wilkinson says that she was looking for an internship over the summer that would allow her to write. After a successful telephone interview while she was still in school, the Media Research Center offered her a position with an opportunity for first-hand journalism experience, in a conservative environment.

“It has been a great opportunity to work with like-minded individuals in the professional world, even though I have only just completed my freshman year,” she says.
