"Christendom played a pivotal role in my vocation,” says alumnus Rev. Mr. Daniel Heenan (’05).  He, along with fellow alumnus, Rev. Mr. Zachary Akers ('05), will be ordained priests by Bishop James Conley of Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday, June 14 in Leesburg, Va. Their ordinations will bring the total number of Christendom alumni priests to 72.

Heenan says that studying at Christendom instilled in him a real of love of learning.

“It taught me to love the God of Truth and to see the truth of God across the various subjects and in all aspects of life, especially in the strong Catholic friendships, which are so important for discerning a vocation,” he said.

Heenan’s time at Christendom, especially during his semester in Rome, also instilled in him a love for the traditional liturgy, which eventually led him to the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter (FSSP).

Heenan and Akers will both be ordained in the extraordinary form as priests in the FSSP, an order dedicated to both the formation of priests in the service of the traditional liturgy of the Roman rite and the pastoral deployment of the priests in the service of the Church.

The 9 a.m. ordination Mass will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg, Va., and is open to the public with a reception will follow.

Father Heenan will celebrate his first Mass (in the extraordinary form) at the Christendom College chapel on Sunday, June 15 at 9:30 a.m. Father Akers will celebrate his first Mass (in the extraordinary form) at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, in Front Royal, Va., on Sunday, June 15 at 12:30 p.m. A reception for both priests will take place in Fr. Ruehl Hall of St. John the Baptist Church following the 12:30 p.m. Mass. Both first Masses and the reception at St John's are open to the public.

These ordinations come on the heels of the recent tragic news that one of the priests of the FSSP order was murdered, and another critically wounded during a burglary at their Church in Arizona. Please pray for the repose of the soul of 29-year-old Fr. Kenneth Walker, FSSP, and the recovery of Fr. Joseph Terra.
