February 19, 2013

Christendom College will host its annual Discernment Weekend on February 22-24. The weekend will focus on the priestly and religious life, dating and discerning marriage, life as a missionary, and many other topics pertaining to vocations.

Friday evening Vespers in Christ the King Chapel will launch the weekend. After Vespers, all will gather for dinner in the St. Lawrence Commons before Stations of the Cross. Then the men and women separate to attend evenings of reflection and fellowship.

On Saturday, participants will be given opportunities for Mass and confession before lunch. From 1–4 p.m., a series of one-hour break-out-session talks will take place in the classrooms of St. Lawrence Commons and the Chapel Crypt. Four talks will take place simultaneously from which participants will be able to choose. Featured talks will be on dating, priesthood, religious life, and missionary work. At the conclusion of the day, special a cappella performances by the students will be held in St. Kilian's Café providing a casual venue for the students to socialize with the visiting religious.

The weekend will come to a close with a 10 a.m. Sunday Mass followed by brunch.

Throughout the weekend, a variety of religious orders will be available for one-on-one discussion about their communities. With 26 orders represented by 50 religious, this is the largest Discernment Weekend at Christendom College to date.

"It is a great blessing to be able to host so many wonderful guests," Director of Student Activities Caitlin Bowers says. "The religious are here not only to discuss the blessings of the religious life, but to help students to further understand discernment and how to pray for what God wants for their ultimate happiness."
